Crawford Moore: Teaching Art, Building Confidence, and Leaving a Legacy

For 34 years, Crawford Moore has been shaping not only art students, but lives, at Celeste ISD. A North Dallas native and graduate of Lake Highlands High School and East Texas State University, Crawford brought his talent and energy to Celeste decades ago — and in doing so, became an essential part of its story.
For Crawford, the heart of Celeste is simple: the people. “We have that small-town, family-friendly vibe here,” he says, and it’s a culture he has actively poured into every day with his upbeat personality and steady presence. Over the years, he has built lasting relationships with colleagues and guided hundreds of advanced art students, turning classrooms into communities and lessons into lifelong connections.
One moment early in his career has stayed with him — a phone call from a former student sharing her success in college and thanking him for helping her get there. It was the kind of moment that reminds a teacher exactly why the work matters. Now, on his daily drive to school, Crawford passes the murals in downtown Celeste — a daily reminder of creativity, pride, and the lasting impact art can have on a community.
Step inside his classroom, and you’ll find a space that runs on creativity, high expectations, love, laughter, and a kind of honesty that pushes students to grow. While the focus is on producing meaningful, high-quality artwork, Crawford’s mission goes much deeper. He challenges students to develop confidence, independence, and the life skills they’ll need long after graduation. He teaches them the value of effort over excuses and reminds them often of a simple truth passed down from his father: you make your own luck.
Outside of school, Crawford’s life is just as full and vibrant. A lifelong Methodist, he has been married to his wife, Theresa, for 35 years. Together, they have built a family that includes three children and seven grandchildren. Known lovingly as Mama T and Crawdaddy PaPa, they stay busy making memories, especially outdoors. Their shared love of travel often takes them to art festivals across the country, where they gather inspiration and bring fresh ideas back to their students.
Crawford Moore’s legacy is not only seen in the artwork his students create, but in the confidence they carry, the standards they uphold, and the lives they go on to build. His impact is lasting, his presence steady, and his contribution to Celeste ISD truly something special.
