Josh Spoonemore: Giving Back to the Place That Shaped Him

For Josh Spoonemore, returning to Celeste ISD was more than coming home — it was an opportunity to give back to the community that helped shape who he is today. A 2003 graduate of Celeste High School, Josh went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and History from Texas A&M-Commerce before beginning his career in education and coaching.
After spending nine years teaching and coaching at Caddo Mills ISD, Josh returned home to Celeste, where he is now completing his seventh year back in Blue Devil country. For him, one of the greatest parts of working in a small school is the ability to truly know his students and build meaningful relationships with them. Being able to positively influence the same community that once invested in him makes the work especially meaningful.
Josh firmly believes that coaching and teaching are built on relationships. “If they know that you are here for them and trust you, they will work for you at anything you ask them to do,” he says. That trust and connection have become the foundation of his success both in the classroom and in athletics. Students know they have someone in their corner who believes in them, pushes them, and walks alongside them through challenges.
His goal is to help students become as successful as possible in every area of life while teaching them an important truth: success always comes with a price that requires effort, discipline, and commitment. But Josh makes sure his students know they will never face those challenges alone. He is committed to working beside them as they pursue their goals and discover what they are capable of achieving.
Outside of school, Josh enjoys spending time with his wife, Marissa, and their two children, Remy and Tenley. As a family, they love sports, outdoor activities, and making memories together.
Josh Spoonemore’s passion for students, relationships, and community continues to leave a lasting mark on Celeste ISD. His story is a reminder of the powerful impact that comes when someone chooses to pour back into the place that once poured into them.
