Shannon Smith: Leading with Love, Patience, and Purpose

For the past 13 years, Shannon Smith has dedicated her career at Celeste ISD to serving some of the students who need support, encouragement, and advocacy the most. With a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, an LBSW license, a psychology minor, and a recently completed master’s degree in Special Education with an emphasis on challenging behaviors, Shannon brings both professional expertise and deep compassion into every part of her work.
All 13 of her years at CISD have been in special education, including 12 years teaching in life skills and self-contained classrooms. After spending seven years at the high school, she transitioned to the junior high, where she has spent the last six years continuing to build meaningful relationships with her students and their families.
For Shannon, her classroom is far more than a learning environment — it is a family. Every day brings new adventures, laughter, challenges, and victories, and she embraces each one wholeheartedly. She values the freedom to use creative and individualized teaching methods for students who learn differently, always working to meet each child exactly where they are.
Teaching, in Shannon’s eyes, extends far beyond academics and classroom walls. Having spent years supporting students on ball fields and at extracurricular events, she understands how powerful it can be for a child simply to feel noticed and supported. She believes students are always watching, learning from the example set before them, and she strives every day to be a positive role model they can trust.
More than anything, Shannon wants her students to know they are cared for deeply. She holds high expectations because she believes in their potential, and every push toward growth is grounded in love. Her greatest goal is to see students become more confident, capable individuals who recognize their own value and strengths.
At Celeste ISD, Shannon Smith’s impact reaches far beyond special education services. She creates belonging, builds confidence, and reminds students every day that each individual matters.
