Jamie D'Amico: Strength, Resilience, and High Expectations: A Teacher Students Never Forget

Some teachers are remembered because students liked their class. Others are remembered because students left stronger, smarter, and more capable than when they entered. This middle school ELAR teacher is both.
Known for holding high expectations and never tolerating excuses, she has earned something incredibly meaningful from her students: genuine respect. Her classroom is one where students know they will be challenged, pushed to grow, and expected to do their best every single day. And because of that, they learn — not only academically, but personally as well.
Behind that strength is someone who has quietly carried profound personal loss. Following the death of her husband, Jeff, the Teacher Incentive Allotment provided stability during an incredibly difficult season of life. She shared that the TIA funds allowed her to remain at Celeste ISD rather than seeking a higher-paying district after his passing.
Even in grief, she has continued showing up for her students with dedication and consistency. The allotment has also allowed her family opportunities to make memories together through vacations and even celebrate life and healing in personal ways.
Her story is a reminder that great teachers carry entire worlds beyond the classroom doors, yet still pour themselves into their students every day. Celeste ISD is grateful for her strength, her honesty, her resilience, and the lasting impact she continues to make on the students who walk into her classroom each year.
