Lynda Gatliff: A Classroom Filled with Wonder, Joy, and Love

For more than 30 years, Lynda Gatliff has dedicated her life to teaching young children, and in that time she has helped shape generations of students through love, laughter, creativity, and endless patience. Having taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade throughout her career, she has spent the majority of her years helping the very youngest learners discover the joy of school and the excitement of the world around them.
This year marks a particularly meaningful milestone for Lynda as she prepares to watch her very first Celeste kindergarten students graduate from high school. The years, she says, have flown by — but the memories remain vivid and treasured.
For Lynda, teaching pre-k is not simply a profession. It is joy in its purest form. She delights in every small moment that others might overlook: children proudly writing their names for the first time, excitedly retelling stories, building towering block creations, counting higher than they thought possible, or squealing over worms, spiders, crawdad claws, and “fried worms” from the cafeteria. Her classroom is a magical place where igloos are built from milk jugs, green eggs and ham are celebrated, songs are sung loudly and off-key, and every accomplishment — big or small — is met with celebration.
She believes deeply that every child deserves to feel welcomed, safe, included, and loved. Her classroom is intentionally designed to feel like a “home-away-from-home,” filled with warmth, play, encouragement, and wonder. She understands that every child enters school at a different place, and she works tirelessly to help each student grow while celebrating their personal progress along the way.
Lynda’s love for teaching was inspired by her own mother, an exceptional educator who was both her fourth-grade teacher and later her college professor. That same enthusiasm and heart for children has now touched countless students and families throughout Celeste ISD.
Throughout her years in pre-k, Lynda has also been deeply grateful for the people who have supported and worked alongside her. She speaks with special appreciation for Amy Evans Nichols, Kay Nichols, and retiring educator Evangelyn Jordan, each of whom has helped make the pre-k experience even more meaningful for students through their generosity, creativity, and care.
Outside of school, Lynda treasures time with her husband, her three children, six grandchildren with a seventh on the way, her grand-cat, grand-dogs, and dear friends. Family, connection, and joy are woven through every part of her life, just as they are woven through her classroom.
Lynda Gatliff’s impact cannot be measured simply in years taught or lessons completed. It lives in the laughter echoing through her classroom, the confidence she builds in young children, and the lifelong memories created during those precious early years of school. Celeste ISD is profoundly blessed by the love, wonder, and heart she has shared with generations of Blue Devils.
