The Houston Livestock Show kept many Celeste FFA members busy over the past several weeks, February 28 - March 11.  The show looked a lot different as exhibitors had to adhere to strict COVID19 guidelines, but overall, those participating were very thankful that the show happened and that all the hard work and preparation with livestock projects was not lost.  FFA member, Hunter Bolton, kicked off the opening week by exhibiting his breeding swine in the Gilt Show.   Koby Brown participated in the Commercial Steer Show.  Koby spent the last six months feeding three steers for this contest.  He had to keep records as well as be able to calculate average daily gain for his steers.  During the three-day event, Koby had to take a written test, interview, and turn in a record book.  This event gave Koby real life experience on raising steers for a feedlot operation.  Koby met all the criteria for the contest, and he was able to sell his steers in the Houston Premium Action.  The junior breeding heifer show followed, and Raegan Sumrow won Reserve Champion Senior Red Brahman female with her heifer, Dottie.   "As a high school senior, I was so grateful to have had the opportunity to compete at Houston despite the pandemic," stated Raegan.  Madisyn Douglas also participated in the Santa Gertrudis Heifer show.  Serving as a Texas junior director for the Santa Gertrudis Association, Madisyn also assisted in the ring throughout the Santa Gertrudis show.  Ty Jackson closed out the week by exhibiting a pen of three cockerels in the market broiler show.
