Celeste ISD Celebrates a Highly Successful Semester
The first semester at Celeste ISD kicked off with some important facilities improvements, as both the elementary and the junior high building received a face-lift over the summer. The elementary entrance was completely remodeled with a 40 ft. covered walk way added to the front of the building and new asphalt was laid covering the entire entrance. The inside of the junior high saw a lot of remodeling done to the inside of their building. The entry and hallways were completely repainted, creating a welcoming atmosphere as you enter the building. The teachers at both campuses spent many hours over the summer cleaning, painting, and decorating their rooms to give the buildings a fresh look for our students.
The District also implemented a system called "STOP IT", which is an anonymous online system where students and parents can report bullying. Celeste ISD is committed to making sure our students are able to come to school in a learning environment absent from bullying.
Celeste ISD is also very excited to add to the Celeste family Dr. Beth Ray as our new elementary principal. Dr. Ray comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience to help raise our elementary back to one of the best in the state. Further, Celeste ISD just received a Superior Rating on the state FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas) report, scoring 100 out of 100 points. This system ensures that Texas public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices.
The high school was honored with a distinction in English Language Arts on the state accountability system for excellence in reading and writing. Also, the Celeste Blue Devil football team had a remarkable turnaround season going from 0-10 in the 2016-17 season to 10-2 and Bi District Champions in the 2017-18 season. According to Dave Campbell's Texas Football this was the biggest turn around season in the entire state of Texas! The Celeste FFA program and our One Act Play members are also showing great promise and are looking toward a great second semester.
The junior high school received a distinction in English Language Arts on the state accountability system for excellence in reading and writing. Also, Celeste ISD hosted the District Elementary and Junior High UIL academic contest on Dec. 7th and 8th. Celeste Junior High won the District Championship by more than 200 points finishing with 1026.5 total points, making all of us very proud. Celeste Junior High led the way to a great UIL event.
The elementary campus is working on a new playground, with a large play structure, a turf field, and a brick pathway to honor donors. Further, the campus has many new initiatives including awards assemblies, the Istation reading program, and new curriculum in several subjects. The elementary is celebrating high attendance and high levels of parent involvement and would like to express thanks to their volunteers and WatchDOGS for their continued support.
