CJHS HONORS VETERANS WITH ASSEMBLY

Family and friends, community members and students joined local veterans and active military on Monday, November 11, 2013, for the annual Celeste Junior High School Student Council Veterans Day Assembly.

Following the Posting of the Colors by the local Boy Scout Troop 429 and the Pledge to the Flag led by 8th grade student Ben Lewis, a strong sense of pride and patriotism could be felt among the crowd as Celeste High School Senior, Austin Gilliam, sang the National Anthem.  The Veterans Day Proclamation was given by 7th grade student, Dylan Hicks. Principal Staci Beadles introduced the guest speaker, Chief Master Sergeant Charles J. Meador of the United States Air Force.  Chief Master Sergeant Meador spoke to guests about the sacrifices that soldiers have made to pave a path for all Americans to have freedom to worship the way they want, get a job, go to school, and to speak as they wish.  Lieutenant Patrick Pearce, member of the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol, read the poem “It is the Soldier”.  The 6th grade students performed “God Bless America” led by Music Instructor Emily Rudovsky, and Student Council President Christopher Jordan sang “American Soldier”.   Megan Sherwin, 7th grader, read the poem “The Nobel and the Brave: A Veterans Day Tribute” written by Joanna Fuchs.  Students and guests paid special tribute to all veterans in attendance including ninety-five year old WWII veteran, Lonnie A. Beadles.  To conclude the ceremony, 8th grade student DeAnna Jo Powell led the crowd in a moment of silence to recognize fallen soldiers,  and Jessi Bennett closed the program by inviting veterans and guests to attend a reception immediately following the program.
