Celeste FFA Chapter Officers, Justin Richey, Paris Walker, Koby Brown, Preslee Minter, Ally D’Amico, Madisyn Douglas, and Luke Beadles attended the 93rd Texas FFA State Convention in Fort Worth, Texas on July 5-9, 2021.  Also in attendance were recent 2021 Celeste High School graduates, Kloe Walker and Raegan Sumrow.  FFA members spent the week hearing inspiring messages from keynote speakers, attending leadership workshops, participating in events and activities, being recognized for their achievements, and serving as the legislative body for the Texas FFA Association.  The officer team got to enjoy a concert by William Clark Green, hear from Keynote Speaker, Amberley Snyder, vote on the FFA talent contest, and participate in a family vacation themed fun night.  Celeste FFA is proud to announce that during the convention, the following members were honored and recognized for their achievements within the FFA:

Justin Richey was awarded the Lone Star FFA Degree.  The Lone Star FFA Degree is the highest degree bestowed by the Texas FFA and this degree recognizes FFA members who have received the Chapter degree, been active FFA members for at least two years, completed at least four semesters of agricultural science at or above the ninth grade level, maintained a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program, demonstrated their leadership skills, and have shown a commitment to the FFA through involvement at the chapter level and above. Richey was one of more than 1,900 FFA members to receive this esteemed degree.

Kloe Walker and Raegan Sumrow, were both awarded a $20,000 scholarship, sponsored by the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo at the Texas FFA State Convention.  These FFA members were awarded for their qualifications in academic achievement, leadership, SAE, FFA involvement, financial need, and personal interview.  Kloe will be attending Texas Tech University to study Agricultural Communications, and Raegan will be attending Texas A&M University to major in Agribusiness.

Celeste High School 2020 graduate, Jaycee Brown, was named a candidate for the American FFA Degree. The American FFA Degree is the highest degree bestowed by the National FFA Organization.  The American Degree is the top degree in a four-tier degree program that recognizes individual achievement in instructional programs, supervised experience and leadership development. The American Degree is awarded at the National FFA Convention in October.

The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 139,000. FFA gives students the opportunity to apply practical classroom knowledge to real world experiences through local, state and national competitions.  Celeste FFA is looking forward to an exciting year ahead!
