Vidler Wins First Place and Chairman's Award at San Antonio Ag Mech Show

FFA member, Waylon Vidler, exhibited his towable upright smoker at the San Antonio Ag Mechanics Show on February 27, 2021.  He received a blue ribbon in the prelims, and advanced to the overall round where his smoker was chosen first in class.  Waylon was interviewed throughout the show day by the judges.  He was asked questions about the building process of the smoker including the design, construction and workmanship such as weld quality, fabrication and paint finish.  Waylon was judged on his technical knowledge of the building process of his smoker as well as his presentation and speaking ability.  “We are so proud for Waylon.  He spent many hours on this smoker from the original drawing to the precise welds of the finished project.  Waylon recently showed his smoker in San Angelo where he received a blue ribbon, and he gained the experience he needed to present his smoker to the judges with confidence and poise.  He really took it to the next level in San Antonio,” stated Ag Mechanics teacher, Mr. Steve Wilson.  Waylon not only won 1st in class, but he was awarded the Chairman’s Award for his interviewing skills.  Waylon was awarded over $3000 in prizes that included a Miller Mig Welder, Lincoln Electric Stick Welder, Radnor Cutting and Welding Outfit, Matheson Cutting and Heating Outfit, Sentinel A50 Welding Helmet, Miller Welding Helmet and other welding accessories.
