LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

RWC Foundation Career Scholarship

The RWC Foundation seeks to identify worthy students who need additional resources to support their education.  Criteria used to determine scholarship recipients are academic merit, diversity, and financial need. You must be a senior in a public or private high school in Hunt County, Texas, with a minimum 2.0 GPA and a resident of Hunt County.  See me for the application.  Deadline to apply is March 4, 2019 by 5:00pm.

 

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has partnered with the College Board to increase scholarship opportunities for students who’ve taken the PSAT/NMSQT® and PSAT™ 10. The application is done through the Common Application website.

Scholarships can open doors for students who aspire to go to college but don't have the funds. The Cooke Foundation provides one of the largest scholarships in the country for high-achieving students with financial need.The application deadline is November 20.

 

2018 INNOVATION SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST

It’s time for the 4th Annual Innovation Scholarship essay contest from Herrman & Herrman, P.L.L.C.

To raise awareness of technology’s impact on driving, our Texas car accident lawyers are sponsoring our 4th annual essay contest with $5,000 in prizes to help young people further their educations. The Burger King Scholars Program

High school seniors, BURGER KING® employees, their dependent children, spouses or domestic partners in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico can apply to receive up to $50,000 in scholarship awards for the 2019-2020 school year! To apply you must

  • Be a citizen of the United States or Canada,
  • Have graduated from high school within the last three years or be a full-time student who is a senior at a high school or home school in the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico,
  • Students who are applying as a full-time freshman to a four-year accredited, college or university that is located in the United States and is exempt from taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code,
  • Students who have a cumulative unweighted grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.3,
  • Students who have a minimum ACT Composite score of 25 or a minimum combined SAT score of 1220,
  • Students who demonstrate an active leadership role in community service, athletics, and/or similar co-curricular activity (such as student government, team sports, fraternal life, etc); and,
  • Students who demonstrate substantial work experience.

Scholarships range from $1,000 to $50,000 and the application window is open from October 15 to December 15 each year.

GE-REAGAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education.

Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient. Awards are for undergraduate study and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. In addition, Scholars are invited to participate in a special awards program and receive ongoing leadership-development support.

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

  • demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;
  • demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);
  • be citizens of the United States of America;
  • be current high school seniors attending high school in the United States (students living on U.S. Armed Forces base and homeschooled students are also eligible); and
  • plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.

Raising Texas Teachers Program

The Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers is available to prospective teachers who are currently in, or plan to enter, an eligible teacher preparation program at a Raising Texas Teachers partner university. Aspiring Teachers can apply in the fall of any year between their senior year of high school and junior year of college. 

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be committed to teaching in a majority-economically disadvantaged school or in a shortage subject area (in a school where more than 50% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch, or as a math, science, bilingual, or special education teacher) in a Texas public school. Preference is given to Texas residents. The application opens soon, so check it out here.

LOAN PROGRAMS

Frost Bank Zero-Interest Loans

Frost Bank offers some zero-interest loans, and three of them are available to students in our area who qualify based on the critieria below.  These become available AFTER November 1, 2018 by contacting the Trust Department at Frost Bank.  See Mrs. Dills for more information.

The Abe and Annie Seibel Foundation

  • Must be a US citizen and a Texas resident
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at a Texas college or university
  • Application deadline is Feb 28, 2019

The Vandal and Winifred Mercer TAMU Foundation

  • Must be a US citizen and a Texas resident
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at Texas A&M-College Station or any branch located in Galveston County
  • Application deadline is Mar 31, 2019

The Ernest A. Mantzel Foundation

  • Must be a US citizen and a Texas resident
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at a Texas college or university
  • Applications accepted until funding is exhausted (approx. 50 loans available and max loan is $4000/year)
